Happy Pride!
10% of Our Rainbow Collection Proceeds Will be Donated to Support Our Local LGBTQ+ Community <3
June is Pride Month, celebrating LGBTQ+ equality, acceptance, and visibility. Since our inception, the Lucia's Team has worked to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. We hope that all of our customers feel safe, seen, and supported in our space and by our brand overall. At Lucia's we truly believe that all humans deserve the right to love and be loved as their most authentic selves.
The rise in anti-LGBTQ policies over the past couple of years has been extremely upsetting to our team. We worry about the impact these bills will have on our friends, our family, and the thousands and thousands of young people doing their best to be themselves in a destructive climate.
This March, our home state of Kentucky followed the lead of states like Florida and Texas when our legislators passed the anti-trans Senate Bill 150. This bill bans gender-affirming medical care for minors and prohibits transgender students from using school bathrooms and locker rooms that match their gender. This bill also prohibits the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.
In order to combat the effects of this bill and to support our local LGBTQ community, 10% of all proceeds from our Rainbow Collection in the month of June will be donated to The Lexington Pride Center.
The Lexington Pride Center was founded in 1977 and is the oldest LGBTQIA+ organization in Kentucky. They are a non-profit that creates and manages safe and inclusive spaces, programming, and services at no cost to those that they serve.
This month, and throughout the year, we encourage you to find ways that you can support your local LGBTQ community through donations, activism, kindness and respect.
Below are a few fantastic national organizations that support and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.
The Trevor Project: The leading and only accredited national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people under the age of 25.
Attic Youth: The Attic creates opportunities for LGBTQ+ youth to develop into healthy, independent, civic-minded adults within a safe and supportive community while promoting the acceptance of LGBTQ youth in society. The Attic is now one of the largest community centers in the U.S. committed exclusively to serving LGBTQ youth and allies.
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD): GLAAD amplifies the voice of the LGBT community by empowering real people to share their stories, holding the media accountable for the words and images they present, and helping grassroots organizations communicate effectively. By ensuring that the stories of LGBTQ people are heard through the media, GLAAD promotes understanding, increases acceptance, and advances equality.
OutRight Action International: Since 1990, OutRight Action International has worked alongside LGBTIQ activists and organizations, diplomats and policymakers, and other key partners to advance community-focused solutions and create lasting legal and social transformation. Together, we combat the systemic violence, persecution, and discrimination that LGBTIQ people face around the world.
